Starbucks Replaces AT&T With Google as It Wifi Provider

Next time you plan of getting some work done over a Starbucks coffee you might notice a difference with the Internet connection in it locations. The coffee chain has given AT&T the boot and brought in Google as its Wifi provider.

The new partnership with Google is a great sign for Starbucks customers being wifi speeds with now be much faster in its locations.

Google is working in conjunction with Level 3 Communications in U.S. Starbucks locations. The new Wifi service will be up to 10x faster than the current service from AT&T. Looks like a no brainer why the upgrade occurred.

The transition to Google will begin next month and the whole process will take about 18 months. The program will be focused on the locations with the busiest Wifi usage first.

Starbucks Chief Digital Officer Adam Brotman spoke with CNET regarding the partnership: “This is obviously an important milestone in our relationship with Google. We do hope this is one step amongst many that we can continue to build upon what’s already a great partnership with Google.”
