It’s been a long memorable road for digital software Winamp but after 15 years the the application along with any online digital services will be shutting down December 20.
According to AOL, the communications company which owns Winamp, the software will officially be no longer available for download after December 20 however it will still function for those who own the software.
This is the official statement made on the Winamp website: “Winamp.com and associated web services will no longer be available past December 20, 2013. Additionally, Winamp Media players will no longer be available for download. Please download the latest version before that date. Thanks for supporting the Winamp community for over 15 years.”
Over the years Winamp has released new versions like the 10th Anniversary edition in 2007, an Android version of the app in 2010 and Winamp Sync for Mac in 2011 but it could never be a reasonable competitor with popular media software like iTunes and Windows Media Player. Regardless the concept of digital music software was paved by the revolutionary concept of Winamp so the doors shutting down on December 20 can never take away from the legacy built.
