There has been a slew of rumors that the new big breakthrough in gadgets will be smartwatches. Various companies like Apple and Google are rumored to be working on wearable high tech watches and now the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Microsoft will be another competitor in the developing market. According to the Wall Street Journal, Microsoft is currently developing a smartwatch. In the report it claims that Microsoft has been in talks with Asian suppliers to ship components required for the development of the device. Microsoft however had declined to comment on the recent rumors.
Back in 2004, the American software company developed a product under the name SPOT (Smart Personal Object Technology). The device was wearable and the user would be able to send instant messages from Windows Messenger, news headlines, stock information, and weather forecasts as part of a paid subscription service. Production of SPOT ceased in 2008 and it was completely cancelled late last year. Is Microsoft making a comeback in the wearable device market? Hopefully we will find out in the near future.
