The Facebook owned photo-sharing network Instagram has reached a critical milestone for social networks, 100 million active users. The announcement was made on the apps website featuring the above photo of Instagram’s team with the following caption:

“Today, we’re excited to announce that there are currently 100,000,000 active users on Instagram. You read that number right — one hundred million people use Instagram every month!”

It is interesting to see the app break such a barrier, late in 2012, the app announced a new terms of service which stirred up a bit of controversy. Users feared their photos would be used without consent by Instagram for advertisements. Regardless after waves of users leaving the network the TOS debacle has been cleared up and Instagram is moving forward and growing. Recently the app expanded to the web giving users access to their account from laptops and desktops.
