A Facebook redesign was introduced today, which takes a move right from Twitter’s playbook.
At the top right users in the US, UK, Canada, India, and Australia will notice a new sidebar hosting a new ‘Trending.’ Topics in this section are words or phrases with a high volume of mentions; explanations are included of why everyone are discussing the topics.
The feature is currently being tested in select markets on the web only. A mobile version is expected to roll out in the near future.
Testing out the new feature is a clear move to attract users from Twitter. Facebook’s ‘Trending’ is busier compared to Twitter’s but you can’t get clear explanations of what the topics mean like Facebook. Along with its attention to detail Facebook is using its collected personalized data to display topics that will interest the user the most.
