Rovio the developer of the addictive cult classic Angry Birds recently launched a spinoff to the popular
game series ‘Bad Piggies’. In just hours the new game shot to the #1 slot in the iTunes App Store. Is Bad Piggies worth the download? Check it out below to see what the game has to offer.
That’s faster than Angry Birds, or any of its many spinoffs, reached the top of the charts, setting a new record for the company, Rovio announced Wednesday. It’s also Rovio’s third consecutive best-selling release this year, following Angry Birds Space and the physics-based puzzler Amazing Alex. Both titles reached the No. 1 spot on the App Store within the first day of release, but not as quick as Bad Piggies’ three-hour journey to the top.
“It’s been an incredible launch, both for the game and for ‘Bad Piggies’ as a brand,” Mikael Hed, CEO of Rovio, said in a statement. “We have an amazing audience who have shown fantastic support for all of our games throughout the year. Our fans have given Bad Piggies an incredible reception — we can’t thank them enough!”
One bit of news that should make fans happy — Rovio is gearing up to release the first update for Bad Piggies in “the next few weeks,” the company said. The update will include a new episode called “Flight Into The Night” that brings “more levels, unlockable content, and exciting plot twists in the pigs’ quest for the eggs.”
Bad Piggies, released on Friday for iOS, Android, Mac, and PC, turns the Angry Birds franchise on its head, letting fans play as the pigs. The game takes place on “Piggy Island,” where players will set out to create crazy vehicles on a mission to steal the delicious eggs and earn three stars in each level.
Bad Piggies is currently listed at No. 20 on Google Play, where it is available for free. The game is 99 cents on the App Store.
